Earth Science

For our Earth Science unit this year, we will be taking a look at Earth's systems and how human activity effects the Earth. It is important to know the impact you can have on the planet because this is the only habitable planet in our solar system and we haven't been able to perfect space travel yet. Why not take a look at this website for some ideas on how you can help the earth a little bit every day! 55 Ways to Save the Environment

Biological Sciences

This year we will be covering many exciting biology topics. We will begin the year with Organisms and their building blocks, or cells. Then we'll move into organisms in their environments or ecosystems. We will also take a look at how ecosystems work. We will then take a look at heredity and how organisms have come to look the way they do through evolution and why some organisms of the same species look so different. If you would like to know why your family dog looks so different from it's cousins, why not take a few minutes and read this article! http://www.livescience.com

Physical Science: Force and Motion

During our physical science unit, we will be taking a look at the different types of forces and motion. We will look at how objects interact with each other and patterns of interractions between objects. Click the link below to try an activity about force and motion.

Science Practices

In science, perseverance is key to success. With hard work, anything is possible! In our science class, we will be using the engineering cycle as a recipe for success. Nothing in science is ever truly finished, just as it is with writing! Sometimes when we "engineer" something new, it doesn't work. Failure is the key to success. With each failed attempt at a design, we learn something new. Maybe we learn what not to try, or how we can change our current design to make it a little bit better. Now you and your family can watch this video together to learn a little bit more about the engineering process!

Life Cycles Galore!

Welcome to the wonderful world of life cycles! Have you ever wondered how a tadpole becomes a frog, or a seed turns into a plant? Well get ready to learn! We're going on an exploration of life cycles and how plants and animals grow. How they are similar and how they are different. In preparation for our unit, you and your parents can watch this fun video together and get a glimpse of plant life cycles.

Introduction

Welcome to Ms. Franklin's science blog.   In this blog I will endeavor to share the various science projects my students work on, along with thoughts on the lesson plans, the plans themselves and any helpful hints I find along the way. Looking forward to our discoveries together!
